The Backstory

I'm Louise Ellis, and it's both surprising and gratifying to realize that I’ve been practicing yoga for over 50 years now. My process through this transformative discipline has evolved significantly and continuously over the decades. I met my first teacher in the vibrant 70s in Los Angeles, where I dedicated myself wholeheartedly to the practice at a time before sticky mats even existed. This led me to studying teacher training under her teacher, Swami Vishnudevananda, which allowed me to teach others while continuing my explorations.

In the early 90s, I discovered the powerful, beautiful practice of Ashtanga yoga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. After many years of study with him in Mysore, I ultimately received certification and embarked on a fulfilling journey of traveling and teaching globally. Eventually, I settled in Rishikesh, where I began to run a dedicated Mysore program that enriched my practice further.

However, since returning to the USA at the onset of the pandemic, I took a much-needed break from teaching, travel, and the online world of social media, which has proven to be incredibly refreshing and rejuvenating. My practice continues to deepen each day, focusing on fostering lasting practices for myself and for those around me. I look forward to teaching small groups again and hope to connect with other committed practitioners worldwide, sharing in the rich experience of yoga together.
